I picked the Freedom of Religion. Why I chose the Freedom of Religion is because I think that it is the most important right in the United States Constitution. What this right means is that you get to choose your own religion and other people can’t choose it for you. If someone else, like the government, chose a religion for you, and you didn’t like it, tough luck. Before this Amendment was passed, there was a king and that king’s religion was the only religion in that entire area that he ruled over. Just think, if there was no law saying that there is a freedom of religion, there would most likely be only one religion over the whole nation. Or each of the states would have their own religion. I think that you should be glad that we have this right as us Americans.
Why I think it is the most important right in the Constitution is because not everybody is part of the same religion. And I think that all or most people would like to choose their own religion instead of someone else picking them for you. Some people don’t like the practices of other religious beliefs so they pick the one that they like and practice that one. Why it’s good for not only me, but the whole nation is because not everybody wants to be a Baptist, or Jewish, or Buddhist, they would, in my opinion, want to practice the religion the want to, not the one that someone else does if you don’t like it.
I feel that this is the most important right in the whole Constitution, but all the rights are still very, very important. This right is found in the First Amendment of the Constitution. How the government protects this right is:
1.) Not allowing each of the states to have one specific religion. If they let the states do that, it would be giving them too much power. And if each state has too much power, they would all be fighting for more and more.
2.) Not allowing a king, because a king usually has only one religion. And if we had a king, there would be one person with way too much power over an entire nation. And if one person had all the power instead of three branches of government sharing the power, we would be in a lot of trouble.
